Young and In Love

Prom night was finally here. Betty was relentless in her determination to be finished with Reggie. She refused to listen to his many pleas and apologies. She cut him sharply if he encountered her at school, at Pop Tate’s or on the street. She always acted as if she did not know him. Reggie was so miserable that even people that didn't like him was asking Betty to forgive him. Nancy knew what he had done to Betty and she was begging Betty to forgive Reggie. Betty got angry and continued to go out with other guys. Betty’s parents were very confused about Archie coming over again as they had never liked Archie.

“Where’s Reggie, Betty?” Hal Cooper had asked Betty one night after Archie had gone home.

“Dad, we broke up. I can’t talk about it, okay.”

Betty had neglected to tell them that she was going to the prom with Archie. They didn't know what was going on but Betty did not wish to share so they left her alone hoping that she would turn to them at some point.

“Hi Mr. and Mrs. Cooper. How have you been? I'm here to pick up Betty for the prom”

“You look very handsome Archie. Betty will be down in a few minutes” Mrs. Cooper went up the Betty’s room to see if she needed any help.

“Dear, are you almost ready?  Archie's here. You didn't tell me he was going to be your date for the prom. I thought by now you and Reggie would have made up.”

“We will never make up Mom. I’m a free agent and I plan to play the field. Archie's different now, but I'm not in love with him.”

“Okay my dear. I just want you to be happy.”

“I am happy Mom.” Betty’s mother hugged her, hoping her daughter really was happy.

Betty was beautiful in a emerald green, strapless evening gown, with matching lace gloves, and a diamond necklace her parents gave her for graduation.

Archie jumped up when he saw her.  He  had never seen her look so beautiful.

“My God Bets! You look amazing.”

Archie had bought her a corsage, but her mother insisted on pinning it on her. They left the house arm in arm and got into the waiting limousine. Jughead Jones and Archie decided to share the cost of the limousine. They had also made arrangement to go to a hotel in the nearby town of Drury Hill. Jughead asked Ethel Muggs to be his date.  Archie and Betty were now on their way to pick them up. Ethel was beautiful in a shimmering blue dress with a very low cleavage and Jughead was handsome in a black tuxedo. They all looked very fine,

Meanwhile Reggie and Chuck were getting ready at Reggie’s house. Chuck had to work hard to get Reggie to go to the prom and to go with a date.  Reggie had not wanted to the prom at all.

“Look man I know you still love Betty but she's moved on and you need to move on too. This girl Crystal  really likes you a lot and is dying to be your date to the prom. You can’t become a hermit, man.”

“Okay Chuck I'll go, I'll go.  I can't be responsible if anything happens. I don't know how I’ll react to seeing Betty there with someone else.”

“Just ignore them. We’ll have a good time, you'll see. Crystal is no prude either by the way.”

“Betty's not a prude!”

“Sorry man. Let's go. We both look great.” They both left in the waiting limousine to pick their dates.

The prom was going in full swing when both limos arrived. Betty and Archie went straight to the dance floor while Jughead and Ethel went straight to the food. Archie and Betty were dancing literally cheek to cheek. Soon, Betty felt someone touch her arm.

It was Reggie.

“Hi babe, you look beautiful. Can I have this dance?” She refused to take notice of how her heart raced when she saw him. Reggie was the hottest boy in town. She noted the girl Crystal clinging to his arm.

“Go away Reggie. I'm here with Archie.”

“Babe you're  still my girl. It's not over between us.”

“Yes it is!”

“Look, Mantle. Fuck off!!” Archie was getting very tired of Mantle. “Let it go man. She’s here with me. ‘No’ means ‘no’-”

“Hi Betty and Archie.  You both look great. Come lover, let’s dance.” Crystal dragged a very reluctant Reggie away.

“Yes ‘ lover’, go dance.” Betty sneered, pulling Archie off the dance floor.

“Archie, can we go someplace else. I have to get out of here.” Betty would not admit, even to herself that she was jealous of Reggie being there with Crystal.

“Sure. I’ll tell Jug we’re leaving, but will be back.”

While Betty was waiting for Archie to make arrangements for them to leave, Nancy came over.

“You look great Bets. I hate Crystal.”

“Me too. I’m going out for a while. I can’t stay here watching them.”

“Reggie’s not into her Bets. Chuck set them up. Here, have some of this.”

Nancy gave Betty a flask of Grey Goose vodka, and she swilled it down. “Hold it girl! You know you have trouble holding your likka.”

“Well, I want to get drunk tonight. I don’t care.” She continued to drink until she felt a nice buzz and emptied the flask.

“I’ll see you later Nance” Betty kissed Nancy on the cheek as she and Archie left the prom.

“So where do you want to go?” Archie asked her. He felt intoxicated by her scent and just being near her. He had one drink earlier, but it gave him a headache.

“I don’t know. Someplace where we can be alone.” She slurred.

“Do you want to go to the Chocklit Shoppe?

“No. Can we go to a hotel or something?”

“A hotel?”

“Yeah, I don’t want Reggie to interrupt us and start a fight.

“Yes, I know a place. Jug and I reserved it so the four of us could party later. The guys at school said they don’t ask questions there.”

“Let’s go there then.” She drunkenly hung on to his arm as they got into the limo.

Archie had a hard time keeping from staring at her breasts, because her gown kept slipping down and repeatedly showed her pink tipped breasts. She giggled as she made a great show of pulling the bodice back into place.

They rode in the limo in silence, after that. She kissed his cheek every so often, and it caused him to have a massive erection.

Oh God, he thought trying to get his unruly member in check. Betty was drunk, and he would not take advantage of her.

“Stay here Bets while I get the room. I don’t want anyone to see us and get the wrong idea.”

“Okay Arch,” She giggled again.

“Come on Betty. We came here to talk.”
