A Dark Night
CHAPTER NINETEEN: A DARK NIGHT
BATMAN lay on his side on the bed in the dark his arms cuffed behind his back and the leash still trailing from his neck.
Shortly after Jet had departed the bulb in the cell had cut out. Jet's voice echoed in the inky blackness from a concealed speaker.
"Lights out," it chimed with wicked satisfaction.
Next came a cacophony of various sounds: The sound of cell doors slamming, mad howls, men shouting Guard! and various far-off screams. The noise went on and on. It sounded like the hell you'd endure in the most brutal of the country's jails. Batman tried uselessly to block everything out but to no avail. The noises echoed and echoed around the cell - sometimes fading out and then rising in intensity until he couldn't hear himself think. Every now and again there came a tortured howl followed by Jet's shrieking laughter.
He knew exactly what she was doing. Everything Jet was visiting on him was part of an attempt to break him through physical and mental torture coupled with extreme humiliation.
Now she was simulating what she must have endured at night during her four years inside. He could only assume the experience she'd suffered had simply served to further heighten her already fierce sadistic tendencies rather than induce any sense of moral decency in the woman.
Batman lay listening and listening his eyes closed constantly reminding himself none of this was for real. Finally the noise subsided and an eerie silence descended.
The Caped Crusader waited for a while listening to the sound of his own breathing. Then he pushed himself upright and stepped off the bed.
He spent a good hour sliding along the walls and door with his back while his hands scrabbled over the brickwork feeling for any weak spot. He tested the door, the flap set low in the floor and every inch of the walls that he could reach. Nothing came of his efforts.
Deflated he sat back down on the edge of the bed and forced his mind to think.
Jet had bettered him at every turn so far. She'd seduced his partner using her sexual hold on him to discover his secrets, taken possession of his home, had him screaming in agony in front of her and left him bruised and battered in a cell seemingly helplessly bound and unable to resist her awesome female power.
But yet she'd still failed to break his mind and nor would she.
Batman leant forward and closed his eyes. He sat like that for two hours as his brain churned.
Then a thin smile creased his lips and he leaned back a plan formulating in his mind. The smile turned into a broad grin as he lay down and closed his eyes determined to get some sleep to refresh himself for the rigours ahead.
