So Innocent

CHAPTER TWO: SO INNOCENT "IT'S been three days," said Robin rubbing his furrowed brow with concern. "No sign, no word, nothing. It's just not normal." The Boy Wonder, Superman and Kara were gathered together round a large table in the Batcave. The young crimefighter had exhausted every possibility before calling on the help of his two friends. He was now sick with worry about the whereabouts of his mentor Batman. "He has to be somewhere," said Kal-El reassuringly. "We'll find him Robin. When did you last see him?" "Tuesday," replied the Boy Wonder. "It was 10pm and he was heading out on patrol towards the East Side. I was going to go but then Batgirl asked if I could run over some things with her so he went alone. "The next day I never saw him and he's not been back since." "The East Side - the scientific area?" said Superman. Robin nodded. "That place is riddled with security cameras," continued Kal-El. "If he was over there he may have been picked up by one." "Good thinking Supes," chimed in Kara. "That could be the key." Superman shot her an annoyed glance. He'd recently become increasingly worried about some of her behaviour - a perceived cockiness in her demeanour and a lack of diligence about her work. He also resented her new habit of referring to him as Supes or Kalbaby. He knew she was only a 19-year-old girl and still growing but he didn't want her going off the rails. Kara ignored Superman's stare and placed her hand gently on Robin's shoulder in sympathy. "Don't worry," she said soothingly. "There has to be a good explanation. I'm sure we'll find him safe and well." Robin looked at her beautiful face and big twinkling eyes and smiled thinly. "I know, I know," he said. "OK," interjected Kal-El firmly. "Here's what we do. Kara - you go and find all the footage from the cameras and go through them. I'll take a fly down the East Side to see what I can come up with. Robin you stay here to see if any word comes in. "Right, let's go." "All ready, Supes," said Supergirl as she rose from her chair. The two strode out into the light as Robin flicked the button to open the concealed entrance to the Batcave. "I do hope Bats is OK," said Kara to her cousin. "Wouldn't it be so awful if anything had happened to him?"
