And So It Begins...

Chapter Two

"Nigma." A gruff voices boomed out from everywhere, a voice that could only belong to the Batman.

"Hee hee hee. What on earth could the Batman want?" The man know as 'The Riddler' continued to run down the dark alleyway, trying to evade the Dark Knight.

Unfortunately for the Riddler, Batman was faster, landing right in his path. The twisted little man bounced right off the Dark Knight's chest, landing on his back. Batman reached down, grabbing the Riddler by the collar, holding him up so they were face to face. "I want you back in Arkham." His voice was barely above a growl as he cuffed the Riddler. "Why are you out of Arkham?"

The Riddler looked up at the Batman in fear. "Somebody....Fox....he offered me some money to distract you...he didn't tell me why though."

Batman gripped the Riddler tighter, pulling him closer. "Why are you talking to easily?"

The Riddler just shrugged. "You've got me cuffed, what else is there to do?"

Batman just ignored him, dragging him to the police station.

It took a few hours, but Kali finally came to. Unfortunately, she woke up in great pain and was constricted in her movements. She had been chained by the wrists to a pillar in the room she was locked in. "H...hello?" She tried to slide her wrists out of the constraints, but she had no such luck. It was then that she noticed she had been stripped of her jacket, beanie and long sleeve shirt, left only in her undershirt. It explained why she was so very cold.

Slowly, she became more aware of her surroundings, seeing a table with different metal objects on it, reminding her of something you would see in a hospital. As she was trying to see what was on this table, she heard footsteps coming towards her, sending more chills down her spine.

"I see you've finally woken up Miss Kali." The man had a blood-red ski cap on over his face, which she assumed was to hide his identity. He began to look over the table with the metal objects on it, his back turned to her. He could hear her trying to get out of the cuffs, the jingling of the shackles echoing in the cold room. "There's no point in trying. Even if you were to get free, you'd freeze to death before you could get away." He turned around with small knife in his hand, approaching her slowly. "Now, once again, I would suggest you cooperate with me this time and avoid even more pain." He ran the dull side of the knife down her jaw line. "You're already in enough trouble for fighting back earlier." He took knife and slashed her across the arm, creating the first of what would be many cuts. "See, I usually just rape my victims. Then again, they usually cooperate more than you did." He brought the knife down again on the other arm, creating an identical slash on her left arm. "So you, Miss Moore, are going to be the special one." He sat down next to her, grabbing her by their hair, forcing his lips against hers.

Kali fought tears of fear and pain back as this man kissed her. She wasn't sure how he knew who she was, but she knew one thing: Uncle Jim would find her. She left her DNA as well as her attacker, which would hopefully let him know that she was attacked, and by who it was, if only it was his code name he knew.

"How do you know my name?" Kali kept her eyes on him, watching him place the knife back in its place and grab something else.

"I know quite a bit about you Miss Moore. All thanks to that bag you conveniently hit me with." He turned back to her, holding a hammer, kneeling at her side. "You're going to regret coming back to Gotham, Kali. It's just too bad mommy and daddy aren't here to come find you. Little orphan Kali." He began testing her reflexes in her knee with the hammer, watching her flinch every time the hammer was brought down on her body. "A little scared, are we?" He brought the hammer up, then brought it down hard on her knee cap. He brought the hammer down until he heard an assuring snap come from her knee cap, followed by the scream Kali had been suppressing the entire time.

Kali slid back down the pole, burying her face into the ground, trying to stop the tears that came with the new pain covering her body. "They'll find you and stop you." She was mumbling through gritted teeth, but knew he could still understand her.

"No one can find the Fox, especially when he's back in his hole with his prey." Fox brought his foot down across her face, starting a new volley of pain.

Batman landed softly on the rooftop, surprisingly greeted by the Commissioner. He set the Riddler down, who was immediately dragged off by several officers who would take him back to Arkham.

The Commissioner had been standing in the same place for almost an hour, clutching the scarf that was found at the crime scene. He hadn't said a word to anyone, waiting for Batman to return. "The Fox has struck again." He continued to stand with his back to Batman, knowing he was still there. "This time, he took someone unfamiliar with Gotham." He turned around, allowing Batman to see his eyes, reddened with tears. He handed the scarf to Batman, standing closer to him. "I want you to examine this. I don't trust anyone else with this case." Commissioner Gordon took a deep breath, trying to calm himself. "He took my niece. My only sister's daughter." He ran a hand through his graying hair, turning back out to the city scape. "I can't lose both." He placed his head into his hands, shaking his head.

Batman walked up to the Commissioner, placing his hand on his shoulder. It wasn't his style to be comforting, so he left Jim to his thoughts, heading back to the Bat Cave.
