I really suddenly got hooked on the idea of Mistah J and Babs Gordon having a little quality time together. It was eroticised for me due to the power dynamics and struggle there would be between them, this incredibly twisted, contested relationship - so hate-filled on Babs' part wheras Joker would find it intensely amusing.
Also as a feminist reader, the fridging of Barbara is a source of irritation to me and given The Killing Joke's other flaws, I needed to find a way to really figure it as something Joker would do - when thematically the crime was a mess and lacked his usual flair and style.
Of course, it occured to me he deliberately fridged her, knowing that part of the torment in his actions would be striking her down for no reason other than to get to Bats.
I didn't want to write a simple rape fic. To my mind, Joker is beyond rape. It's too base and common for him. It is far more powerful to persuade someone who hates you into sex and that's what I found erotic about this scenario. That Barbara could, as much as she hates him, consent to sex with him.
