Chapter 3: Raven
Starfire had quietly fallen asleep on the couch. Her early morning enthusiasm didn't have much endurance to it, and she had promptly passed out roughly 1/2 of the way through the movie. Her stomach rose and fell with her breathing patterns, a bundle of gold skin and red hair curled up into itself. Beast Boy quietly patted her head, softly smiling, then retreating from the couch as Cyborg set up the game systems.
Then a noise Beast Boy would rather not have heard so soon began announcing itself down the stairs. Light steps coming down, and a stifled yawn. Beast Boy bit his lip and turned back to Cyborg, who was, quite naturally, grinning far too much for one's own good. BB pointed rapidly at the stairs, a look of fear washing over him, which in turn, only caused Cyborg to grin more. The question between on both of their minds was who would BB be finding himself confessing to now? Raven or Robin?
A blank face, heavy eyes, and dark, frizzled hair looked over the area in front of her.
"Raven. Shit." BB whispered to himself. Of course, the response would have been just the same if it was Robin he would need to have a private chat with. Her hands smoothed out her hair quickly, carrying herself over to the kitchen and searching for something she could call breakfast. Beast Boy sighed, looked Cyborg in the eye, and the two engaged in hand gestures until Cyborg figured out that BB wanted him to leave so he could talk to Raven in private. Cyborg nodded, with a underplayed look implying a bitch-out if BB skirted his responsibilities here. He picked up the dozing Starfire carefully, walking back up the stairs to her room.
Which left Beast Boy, and Raven, in the kitchen, alone.
"Something on your mind?" She asked, between spoonfuls of cereal.
Beast Boy snapped back to reality with a startled look. "How did you know?"
"I'm good at reading body language." Raven replied flatly, putting two more scoops of cereal into her mouth and chewing softly. She mumbled her focus words as best as she could through a mouthful of food, picking up the newspaper across the room, and summoning it to her. Raven worked her eyes over anything political, soaking up information at a rapid rate. The page turned, with the long pause between Raven and Beast Boy continuing as she mumbled little notes to herself of bills being passed and proposed.
"Do you want to talk about it?" Raven pressed on, putting down her spoon and looking up to see Beast Boy in his eyes, hers remaining the same expression she had while coming down the stairs. Her offer, however, was genuine.
"Uh...yeah. Yeah, I guess I do." Beast Boy nodded, and sat himself down, finding himself once again in the position of sucking up the reserves of his courage. Raven's bowl of cereal and newspaper slid silently off to the side, letting her focus.
"What's the problem?" She asked, putting her palms together.
"I wouldn't really say it's a problem...just something I need to talk about. Y'know?"
The edges of a smile curled up on her lips. "Afraid I don't. You're being vague." She continued, monotonely.
"Uhm...well, okay, it's like something I need to get off my chest, but I don't really think it's a problem.." Beast Boy grinned nervously, fumbling for words as he spoke.
"So what is it?" Raven pressed on.
"Well, ah, uhm....uhhmmm..." Beast Boy became flustered. Cyborg wasn't too difficult to tell because he was talking to his best friend. Starfire probably even easier, because she didn't really know anything about it to begin with, and couldn't have formed a prejudice about it.
This was Raven. A much different case. Her reaction could not be guessed, and she most definitely had an opinion one way or another on the matter.
Still, best get the pain over with now. Cyborg and/or Starfire could cheer him up if things went wrong, he thought silently.
"Raven, I'm buh...bisexual."
Raven tilted her head, her expression unchanging.
"Beast Boy, I already knew that."
Beast Boy help his expression, halfway, mouth hanging ever so slightly open, ready to say something.
As the cogs in his brain turned, Raven kickstarted the reboot process.
"You...left some of your movies and comics around. I put them back in your room. And considering what they were...wasn't hard to figure out."
"Oh."
The conversation felt dead with that. Raven herself fidgeted, realizing she had put Beast Boy in an awkward place. She stood up, putting on a pot of coffee, and stretching quietly.
"It's obvious you wanna talk about it some more...I'll make a cup of coffee and you can talk all you want. I can be a good listener, believe it or not."
There was a faint smile on her face, briefly, as she brought out the sugar and cream, while Beast Boy scooched his seat closer in, trying to get comfortable.
"1 more to go..." He whispered to himself.
