Chapter 3: The Eternal Flame

Raven sat in her room, her legs pulled up and pressed against her budding chest. Her blue eyes were wide with fear and suspicion. Her mental training was doing all it could to keep her powers in check. She could not see what she had thought she saw. They were all slaughtered in his path, he could not be one of them....

~~~Flash Back~~
A young Raven stands on a precipice, starring down at a city below her. Her small heart thumping in fear. A tear forming in her sea blue eyes. Below her, was carnage. Her father Trigon had started a demonic war in which he planned to conquer all of the underworld, and it was likely he would succeeded. These however, were his strongest opposition.
Her heart reached out and wanted so badly to protect the people below, but her father controlled her and she could do nothing. She sank down and her small fist slammed into the ground, how - how could she of let this happen to all of those people.
She felt her powers pull her to her feet ~No!~ she thought to herself, as she was dragged down the hill. She could smell the dead flesh scent already rising on the air, women and children around her being slaughtered, as the warriors had fallen long before. All that was left, that she could see, where three men, and a small young boy. The three men were almost even with her father when put together.
Almost, being the thought in her mind, almost they could destroy him, almost so many lives could be saved, almost - was Azarath safe. It was not to be, with a single swipe Trigun knocked away the three remaining warriors, from what she knew of these people, they grew stronger with age, and the old ones were obviously the strongest.
Trigun grinned as Raven was forced up next to him, and his four eyes slid over to hers. A murderous grin appeared on his face as he set his hand on her head, and let out a cold chuckle, and spoke two words that would haunt Raven for along time.
“Kill him” Raven violently shook her head no, but she knew she could not resist her fathers will, he manipulated her, despite she wasn’t the one controlling them, they were still her powers that lifted the spear from the ground, and as the young man with midnight hair and sapphire eyes widen, the spear plunged into his chest.
The small boy fell to the ground, and Trigun simply let out a laugh. Raven began to sob, but her eyes widened as she saw something she never expected, the boys body began to raise off the ground, covered in flame.
Trigun was even taken a back by the action, as the spear fell from his chest, instantly healing. Raven looked around and saw that the elders had turned to stone? She puzzled over this, but not for very long, as the boy got to Trigun’s eye sight, he turned his back to him as if to rocket away, Trigun lashed out, catching the young man on the back, and leaving three deep long scars across his back.
There was suddenly an explosion - one that sent both Raven and Trigun flying backwards and slamming them into one of the domiciles, when they stepped from the rubble, they saw black feathers floating to the ground. Trigun picked one up and scoffed.
“Ha! There are no child of fire left to be born!” and turned and walked away, forcing raven to follow him. Her small blue eyes turned and looked back at the Fire Demon tribe - or the remnents of it, her father having destroyed and murdered all of it.
~~End Flashback~~
Raven sat in her bed, a cold sweat covering her body. She shuttered slowly, her eyes flashing back to those elders - they were diffrent then Dallas was, they were darker appearing - but the scars..and the ablities, they were all the same.
“He can’t be one of them...” Raven closed her eyes and crossed her legs to meditate, meanwhile the titans were all talking to Dallas in the training room. They were all quite curious about his ablilites.
Starfire who was flying behind him poked at his back where his wings were she blinked softly. Brought her finger up as if to say something, then poked him again.
“Do they hurt?” She questioned him, prodding his back for a third time. Dallas looked back at her, pushing his midnight hair from his eyes. She was indeed a confusing creature, not to mention a horrible cook.
“My Wings? No they are natural to me - tell me - does it harm you to fly?” Seeming to understand, Starfire floated back infront of him and touched down beside Robin, who was running scans over Dallas’s body.
“These scans say there is nothing abnormal about you - that the only thing strange is your exceedingly high body temperature, If we are going to know how to treat you - we need to know all there is about you phyiscally - so why don’t the wings show up?”
“Because, they are a transformation, like with beast boy - if you scanned him - would all of his animals show up?” Robin nodded and continued his scans as Cyborg and Beastboy were arguing in the corner.
“You ask him!”
“ No you ask him!”
“No you ask him!”
Dallas looked over at the two best friend and lifted a single eyebrow, then walked over and set a hand on Beastboys shoulder, which sent him skyward in fright. He quickly landed back on his feet.
“Ask me what?”
“We wanted to know what about you freaked Raven out” asked Cyborg, probably wanting to know how to freak out the unbreakable Raven in the future.
“Not a clue actually - do you think I should go talk to her?”
“It’s your funeral if you do” pipped in Beastboy. Dallas sighed and headed out of the room.
“If I’m going to be a member of this team, then I should make sure that I get along with everyone right?” The titans were about to argue that they didn’t get along all the time, but Dallas had left already.
Ravens room was easy to find for him, it exuded aura and strength. He gave the door a knock and awaited an answer.
