Cape Fear

CHAPTER THREE: CAPE FEAR

THE CARD arrived exactly 24 hours after Robin's disappearance. Batman had been combing the East Side close to the last known sighting of his partner but with no success. When he returned to the Batmobile the envelope was taped to the window with the simple words For My Bat neatly written on the front and a lipstick kiss underneath.
The Caped Crusader had no idea how someone could have managed to place it there without activating the alarm but they had. He looked around before pulling it free and clambering into the vehicle.
He turned the envelope over in his hands searching for clues but there seemed none. Finally he carefully slit it open and pulled out the card.
His eyes widened as he looked at the technicolour picture emblazoned on the front. There stood a grinning Jet posing with her hands on her hips and Robin's utility belt slung around her waist like a trophy.
Batman flicked open the card and read the message inside with mounting fury.
"Robin's such a delicious toy Batman.
I love hearing him squeal.
XXXX
Your soon-to-be-mistress."
Jet! The Jet he'd seen jailed, what, four years ago now?
He still had the picture in his mind of Robin kneeling before her in the vault of the City Bank and the dark-haired villainess squealing with delight as she ground the face of the helpless teenager into her muscular thigh.
If he hadn't arrived just when he did God knows what she would have done to the Boy Wonder. Surely she couldn't be free again?
Angrily he threw the card onto the passenger seat, gripped the wheel tight and gunned the car out onto the street heading as fast as he could towards the Batcave his mind a whirl of fear and anger.
He made it back within 20 minutes, dodging through the city traffic and running two red lights in his desperation to get to his destination.
The car screeched to a halt inside his hideout and he leapt out and made for the central console. His fingers tapped furiously into the keyboard as he typed in his passwords to access the City Prison Records database.
Within a few seconds he had what he wanted. Jet's entire prison record. There at the top were the words he was dreading: Her release date. Exactly two weeks ago. Sentence reduced by half due to good behaviour. There was even a note from the Governor wishing her well for a happy future.
Batman sank back in his chair in horror. Jet was free again. And she had Robin. He had to find them. And find them fast.
