Chapter Four: Schmee
Devi smiled and lead us to the couch by the phone. "I`ll leave you to it while me and Nny go and find something to eat. Come on Johnny, let`s see if we can order a pizza this late at night." She said as she grabbed his elbow and dragged him to the kitchen.
I watched as they left the room, a demonic gaze on Johnny`s face. I was unsure about this whole situation. Something just seemed...off about this "Devi" girl. Did she not know what Nny was like? So again, I tried appealing to Todd. "I dunno Todd, I think we should just call your parents and get out of here. Or better yet, let`s just try to find home by ourselves!"
But as Todd stifled yet another yawn, I knew that we may be stuck here for quite some time. He was in no condition to go house hunting. And his parents would not come get him. Even I knew that. His parents were plain evil, but no matter how many times they "lost" him, Todd refused to set them on fire. Perhaps when he was older and more impressionable...
As Squee picked up the phone and dialed, I kept an eye on the figures in the kitchen. They were gazing deeply into each others eyes and exchanging stolen kisses when they thought Todd could not see. But he saw and just stuck out his tongue in disgust. He just went back to trying to reach is parents as the silhouettes in the gloomy darkness became closer to one another.
One ring of the telephone...the shadows were moulding together. Three rings...A jacket became discarded. Five rings...Todd began twirling the telephone cord around his finger, oblivious of the scene going on right in front of him. At seven rings, Nny and Devi had realized that they had company, and had only lost coats and shoes. They picked them up and exited the kitchen, hanging them on the racks or leaving them on the floor in the case of each article of clothing. "Any luck?" asked Johnny.
"Nope, not yet." meekly replied Todd. "They`re probably asleep and can`t hear the phone ringing. I guess I`ll just have to keep trying." Devi took the phone from Todd and listened for a few minutes. "That`s okay." she said. "You can stay here with us tonight. It`s no trouble and then Nny can drive you home tomorrow."
Devi pulled some blankets out of the closet and draped them over the couch. Nny then lifted Todd onto the couch and tucked him in. But Todd was too tired to be the least bit frightened. So I kept quiet. This was peculiar behavior for him...
Devi then looked at Johnny and said "You know, I`m a bit sweaty for all the "exercising" we did earlier. I`m going to go hop in the shower." She then sauntered off, Nny right behind her. Throughout the next hour or so, I heard very strange sounds coming from the bathroom, and looked at Squee. But he was fast asleep, so he didn`t notice. If Nny and Devi ever went to bed that night is beyond me. I fell asleep soon after to the sound of squishes on ceramic walls.
The End
