The Dove Captured the Wolf

 At The Choklit Shoppe...

The party at Pop's was in full swing. Reggie was dancing with all the girls. Betty watched him.

He was a good dancer, of course.

'Why am I making a big deal about a kiss?' Betty was thinking.

They were both thinking this thought.

'But I see why the girls cry for him. He really is a great looking guy, fun to be with, and he knows it. Why doesn't he settle with

1 or even 3 girls at a time? He seems to have dozens at one time.' 

Betty  just shook her head at his stamina for so many girls, sports, and his many other activities, on and off campus. All at

the same time it seemed.  And he did them well.

Reggie finally came to sit down. He wasn't even sweating nor out of breath.

"Hey gorgeous, wanna dance?"

"No Reggie, I have to talk to you about Gloria."

Betty could see Gloria watching them, looking impatient because Reggie did not come over yet.

"Why?"  he asked.

"She is heartbroken over you." Betty said exasperated.

People still kept coming to congratulate him on a game well played.

He took the complements as his due. Modest he ain’t. Told you.

He puffed up like a rooster

"Look Bets, we went out for a few dates, that's it. I never promise them more than that. They bore me. I'm not ready to settle

with 1 girl. I have so many who want to be with me. Can't disappoint them, now can I?"

"Why do you chase Ronnie, Midge and Cheryl? Is it because they are taken already?" she challenged him

"Nah, I guess I do it for the same reason you chase Archie? I'm nuts. I like the challenge. Archie is taken by Ronnie rather 

you realize it or not. People think I'm crazy to take a beating from Moose as much as I do. I'm  still going strong." Reggie

had to go there about Archie.

Betty turned bright red, her freckled nose glowing.

' She's so adorable when angry' Reggie thought.

"OK Reggie, I'm going home. See you!".

As Betty began to storm off, Reggie  grabbed her arm, pulled her to the dance floor and they began to dance.

It was a slow dance. He pulled her close.

She tried to pull away, but couldn't budge him.

He breathed in the scent of her hair. Aroused by the smell of vanilla.

Other people started looking at them. They looked good together , the blond and black head close together.

Gloria was getting pissed. She left, vowing never to speak to Betty Cooper again.

They were an odd couple to be sure. The Dove  and the Wolf, together.

"Look Betty, why do we always argue about Carrot Top? Can we call a truce?" He asked her

"Sure Reg,  if you stop dogging Archie and my friends. Stop dating them. They all get hurt. And I'll forget what a dog you really

are."

"Woof, woof!"  He barked playfully.

" Wolf sounds much  better. Has more class. OK Bets I promise not to date any more of your friends." he said.

He didn’t say he would stop harping on her about Archie. She did not notice.

They both laughed , enjoyed the music, the dance, and the feeling of closeness to each other.

Back at the Lodge mansion...

 Archie and Ronnie was basking in the after glow of their sexual encounter, whispering words of love.

"I can't wait to tell Reggie and Betty" she gushed

"I can’t wait to see Reggie the rat's face" Archie sneered. He didn't mention Betty.

He and Reggie were frenemies. Friendly enemies. They were friends who hung out, played sports and double dated. But

they also fought over the same girls. Betty and Veronica to be exact. . Archie always felt they were his girls. It was

OK for Reggie to date Betty sometimes, but only when Archie was busy with Ronnie or some other girl. Sometimes Ronnie

went out with Reggie without Archie’s consent. Then they weren’t friends. Archie hated to see Betty with Reggie also.

Ronnie liked dating Reggie because he was rich, fun and one of the best looking guys in town, if not the world. Archie was

cute in a still boyish way, but Reggie was like the storm, Archie the calm. Veronica needed them both for the balance.

But time to settle down. She can mold Archie anyway she wanted. Reggie she knew she couldn’t. This is why she chose

Archie. She will have Reggie on the side. ‘Oh what a life’

. Veronica felt she would have the best of both worlds

Archie hoped he could give up Betty as easily as Ronnie thought he could.
