Competition continues
Archie was not listening to Veronica as she droned on and on about her upcoming trip to Rome.
He could care less. Was she always this boring? "I'll miss you buttercup" he said, mind drifting off, thinking of Betty. Archie was thinking of Betty and Jason. Were they 'doing it? Was Jason kissing her, touching her...? "Archie!!", Veronica yelped. "How dare you ignore me! You can leave since I'm boring you" "Oh come on Ronnie, I'm just sad you are leaving, gimme a kiss, sugar". He was able to distract her , for now anyway ‘Hmmm, what are they doing now’ he wondered, as he kissed Veronica Archie was a good kisser... ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Reggie and Betty did manage to study the next day. He made sure Betty lost track of time and was unable to go out with Jason that night. Reggie bought over so many little delicacies for them to snack on, her folks were included. Joining the family for dinner. Reggie and Mr. Cooper watched a basketball game together, munching on homemade chocolate chip cookies, made by Betty It was getting late, so Betty called Jason to reschedule their date. She was just having too good a time to go out with him. “I’m sorry Jason. Can we postpone our date? I am still studying and my parents won’t let me go out. Forgive me?” “Sure Betty. You owe me one. Is Mantle still there?” “No he went home. Good night Jason” She blew him a kiss in the phone, then hung up. ‘Why did she lie to him?’ she wondered. She was also glad Reggie couldn’t hear her. But Reggie was still there. He had spent all afternoon and stayed until 1 am at Betty’s house. Betty’s parents didn’t worry about a curfew as long as Betty was home. And they liked Reggie. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Jason was so upset he punched out the window in his bedroom. The butler was tending his bleeding hand when he called a repair service to fix the window.
Three weeks later, Jason took Betty out to dinner and dancing, first at a very swanky restaurant and then to the country club for an even fancier dance. Betty was a girl to be proud of . She fit in with the 'riff raff , or townies' as Jason called everyone that wasn't a ‘cabillionaire’ like his family (except for the Coopers, of course) He met Betty’s parents and was his most charming. Mr. Cooper didn’t like him. He didn’t say anything to Betty though. Jason could not afford to be snobbish about the family of the girl he loved so much. For some reason, he didn't look down on them, just everyone else. Even Veronica Lodge was beneath him, in his mind. She was definitely a townie.
