“The Origin of Love”
Hedwig and the Angry Inch
The rain suited her fine. In fact, the darker and more savage the night was the better. Not only did it fit her mood (and she liked to imagine, her style), but it gave her privacy as well. The top of Titan’s Tower was hardly where she could imagine anyone wanting to go in the middle of a rainstorm, with the freezing wind and rain, and occasional too-close-for-comfort lightning jags. The rain a lightning she could handle, both curving gently around her hovering body without quite touching it. The cold was sometimes another matter, but tonight, even that felt distant, driven back by a heat inside that she had only recently become aware of.
“I’m going to destroy the world,” she thought. Not that she had ever really admitted any particular affection for the planet she lived on... the thought had never really occurred to her. Her own world had been so much smaller for so long. A home, a large, empty room. Four very close friends. Consideration of the places and people beyond had always seemed secondary. Nor had she ever considered too closely why she fought. She had always assumed that it had been for them, for her friends, and left their reasons to themselves. But maybe she had known all along what was inside her. Maybe she had been trying to redeem herself to the people that she would one day destroy.
And maybe she did love this planet, the bay, the city. And maybe that’s why she was crying.
It surprised her to realize it, and the surprise broke her concentration long enough for her to become thoroughly soaked before she could re-establish her concentration. She had just recovered enough to begin telepathically extracting the water from her clothing when her concentration was broken again by someone’s greeting.
“I thought you might be up here again.”
“Shit.” She cursed, momentarily allowing herself to be soaked by another gust. She was too jumpy to be out here tonight. Nothing was working out well.
“I’m fine Beast Boy. And no, I don’t want to talk about it. Do I ever want to talk about it? I’d have thought you’d catch on by now.”
She hadn’t looked yet, but she knew he was standing behind her. And she knew by the fact that the rain was no longer falling anywhere near her, that he was probably offering her an umbrella. He did tend to do strange things like that. She was never sure if he was a gentleman pretending to be a clown, or the reverse. Maybe he was both at the same time. Certainly Robin wouldn’t have been thoughtful enough to bring an umbrella up here for her. He had a tendency to miss small, important details. Unless Starfire wanted to wait forever, she would need to be a little more aggressive.
Speaking of which, she would need to be more aggressive herself if she wanted to keep her me-time sacrosanct. Not to mention that her favorite rainstorm hideaway had just been ruined. *Sigh*
“How did you find me up here?”
“Find you? Don’t you always come up here when it… I mean, uh, I was just coming up here to be by myself and there you were…”
“So you’ve been following me, is that it?”
“Not really following. Just kind of, wandering, until I find you.”
“I see. And I suppose you wander into my room sometimes, too.”
“No, I mean, sometimes, I mean, only if I’m worried and I haven’t seen you for a while. I knock first. Really.”
“And that cockroach I saw the other day in the shower?”
Beast Boy dropped the umbrella. Right on her head.
“You saw me?”
“You what!”
Her last remark had been a bluff, intended to embarrass him with denials. As it turned out, she was the one suddenly embarrassed.
“You SPY on me in the SHOWER!”
“No, no, I don’t spy on you at all. I didn’t see anything, I promise, you were wearing a towel and…”
“Forget it. I don’t want to know. Listen, I know you came out here to make me feel better, but it’s not going to work. We’re not going to have one of our little moments here. It’s just not like that.”
She was halfway to the door now, and he wasn’t following. She had forgotten everything, for a instant, but the instant was over. One day she was going to destroy him, too. Maybe she should do it herself, make sure it was fast and that he wouldn’t suffer any. The thought made her want to cry again. It was wrapping up to be a bad night.
“I didn’t come here to make you feel better.”
She stopped at the door. This was a little surprising, but she couldn’t summon any emotional response.
“And no, I don’t want to play Racer Monkey 3 with you, either.”
“Rae, I’m dying.”
…
A God she did not believe in chose that moment to brighten the top of the tower with a flash of lightning, the thunder following by a few seconds. Then there was only the sound of rain hitting the metal roof.
“This had better not be one of your stupid jokes,” she said. “Because if it is…”
“I’m not joking.”
Raven realized that he was close again, just behind her, with the umbrella cutting a circle through the rain around them. It seemed like the only dry spot in the whole universe.
“You know how I haven’t been feeling… well… recently?”
Raven didn’t say anything, afraid to mention that she hadn’t really noticed anything different about Beast Boy at all. In fact, she hadn’t really even noticed him, period. Or anyone else in the tower. Except for the moments when they had to fight together, they had just seemed to be… there.
“I went to Cyborg, and he ran me through one of his scanning machines. Rae, I’m sick. I don’t know what’s going on exactly. Something to do with my genetic code. Remember when we were fighting Adonis, and I got exposed to that chemical, and I couldn’t control my transformations for a little while?”
Raven nodded. She didn’t remember all of that time, but she remembered enough.
While Beast Boy talked, she turned around to look at him. He seemed too serious. It made his face look strange, unfamiliar. Not moping, or sad, or even depressed. It was blank, like he was reading from a script that someone else had written for him.
“Cyborg said that my genetic code was unstable. It’s always been unstable. It’s what allows me to transform. But… I’m getting tumors.”
“Tumors?”
“Cy looked at one. He thinks that I’m destabilizing on a cellular level now. He said it’s like cancer. Rae, it’s all over my insides. Everywhere. He says that he’s going to try to figure out what’s going on, but it doesn’t look good.”
“When did you find out?”
“Have you told the others?”
“I didn’t…”
“Why not?”
“I don’t know what to think about any of this. I don’t know what’s going on. What’s going to happen to me, Rae? Cyborg says that if the tumors keep growing…”
“Stop it! Don’t say things like that!”
She grabbed his arms, shaking the umbrella loose from his weakened grip. The rain instantly soaked them both.
“Listen, we’ve been in difficult situations before…”
“We? We? What do you have to do with this? I’m the on that’s sick! You’re just… just… I didn’t think you would understand. I don’t know why I came here first.”
“Beast Boy, I don’t…”
But she couldn’t think of anything else to say, because what she really wanted to do was take back her last words… but she had nothing to replace them with. It was a situation she had never been in before, isolated as she had always been from others. She was intimately acquainted with suffering, of course, and inevitable death… but for herself, with her own secrets. No one else had ever been close enough to her to confide such things. She was confused, not thinking clearly. At least, that’s how, later, she would rationalize her actions.
For the moment, though, she was kissing him, and it was impossible to say who was more surprised. It only lasted for a few seconds, long enough for Raven to realize that her hands were tangled in his hair and she was actively trying to open his lips with her tongue. Then, shocked, she pulled back, her mouth moving soundlessly as she struggled for an explanation. Beast Boy’s lips were moving, too, but she couldn’t hear was he was saying over the drumming of the rain. It was really pouring now, seeming to come down in sheets that filled her eyes and ears, painlessly blurring sight and sound. There was only the tactile sensation of thousands of raindrops, and a deep cold, except where her arms were still wrapped around his neck.
And so it was that he initiated their second kiss, and Raven found her mouth opening naturally to his own. It lasted for some time. Raven had imagined what kissing was like before, but it seemed ludicrous that it would actually feel good, any more than licking a piece of wet rubber, a combination of bad tastes and unpleasant textures. Kissing, in her opinion, was something that humans did to demonstrate affection more than for enjoyment. Or at least, that had been her theory, until it was disproved by the deep-seated waves of euphoria that seemed to directly link her mouth to her pounding heart.
For Beast Boy, the waves were reaching a little lower. At first, in addition to the pleasure of their kiss, he felt a light, floating sensation. Then, he realized that this was because he could no longer feel his legs. Finally, it occurred to him that he could no longer feel his legs because every drop of blood in his lower body had been diverted elsewhere, and that “elsewhere” was prominently pressed into Raven’s stomach. He tried to move his hips sideways to bring their bodies apart while desperately hoping that she hadn’t noticed, but she sabotaged his efforts by grabbing him more tightly. Finally, he was able to pull back enough, in the process breaking their kiss.
“Rae?” he said, looking down at her, forgetting that she probably couldn’t hear a word that he was… was she smiling? She pulled him close, and whispered in his ear:
“I’m cold.”
And with that, they were gone.
It is not widely known that, in spite of it’s size, Titans tower has only three bathrooms. Robin, his lifestyle still strongly influence by his Spartan training regimen and without adequate female supervision, had, at the time, simply thought that three was more than enough. With the arrival of women, changes were instituted and the bathrooms divided thusly:
Number (1) BB and Robin
Number (2) Cyborg (contains specialized hardware)
Number (3) Raven and Starfire
Number 3 was a legend among the male members of the teen titans. None of them had set foot in it since it had been claimed by the women, and speculation was rampant. Cyborg thought that it was probably twice as big as either of the male bathrooms. Beast Boy suspected that it was probably filled with carnivorous alien plants and had water fixtures in the shape of snakes and bats. Robin suspected that it was clean.
Never, in all of their imaginings, had they imagined this.
“Oh my God,” said Beast Boy.
“Ssssh,” Raven whispered. “You don’t want anyone to know you’re in here…”
“Is that…”
“Yes! Now be quiet!”
The knob of the shower that they were standing in took on a black sheen for a moment, and suddenly they were surrounded by a flow of steaming water.
“This is the most amazing bathroom I’ve ever been in. I didn’t even know that…”
“Forget the bathroom for a moment,” she said.
“And you’re the most amazing Raven I’ve ever showered with.”
“You’re on the right track now.”
They were kissing again, only instead of cold rain, the sensation of Raven against him was melting into the warm water. It felt good to be warm again. He hadn’t realized how cold he had been.
His erection hadn’t faded any, either. It was still pressed insistently into her stomach, bulging out his green and purple tights.
Shit. He was going to get in trouble.
At least that’s what he thought, until he realized that Raven was actively rubbing her stomach against it.
He broke their kiss for a second time. “Rae?” he asked.
“Mmm hmm.”
“Um.”
“Umm?”
“Yeah, I was just…”
“…doing so well. Now shut up.”
She kissed him again, apparently not feeling much like talking. At least he had tried. He gave up and actually succeeded in relaxing into the kiss, at least until her hand started to rub him.
“Raven! What are you doing?”
She looked suddenly at a loss for words.
“I don’t know… I just…” The bubble of euphoria that she had been floating in for the past several minutes seemed to burst, replaced with a mixture of shock and self-doubt.
“Was I bothering you?”
“No, it’s just… you’re okay… with it?”
“If you are… I just thought... that it might… feel good. Does it feel good?”
“…Yeah….”
“Then do you want me to keep going?”
Beast Boy gulped. Raven’s hair was slicked flat against her head by the water, her eyes deep, serious pools. For a moment, the thought he might get lost. The sensation of her hand stroking his erection again brought him back to reality.
“…Yeah…”
“Okay, then. That was all you had to say.”
And with that, her left hand was suddenly inside his pants, stroking him directly.
“Rae!”
“Uh huh?”
“It feels…”
“Good?”
“Yeah.”
Her other hand was working his tights down, and soon he was naked below the waist. With his clothing out of the way, she brought both hands to bear on his erection, stroking him lightly up and down. It wasn’t very practiced, and she wasn’t really stimulating him very hard, but the eroticism of the whole situation made of for her lack of technique. He found himself unconsciously moving his hips against her hands
Raven was fascinated with the feel of his… cock… as she moved her hands over it. She didn’t know much about sizes, but Beast Boy’s seemed pretty big to her. Well, big enough, at least. It amazed her how much it could grow. The texture was unique as well, hard and soft at the same time, a sheath of soft, slippery skin over a stiff core.
She moved one hand down for a moment and fondled his balls, gently rubbing them together. They too felt soft and vulnerable. Beast Boy moaned his approval. She kept one hand there, squeezing him gently, while she wrapped the other around his shaft and moved it slowly up and down.
“Is this right?”
“Yeah… but… you can squeeze a little tighter…”
“Like this?”
“Yeah, and move your hand up and down some.”
Raven tightened her fist around his cock and began stroking it from the base to the head, wrapping her hand over the top when she reached it. Deciding to play around a little, she twisted her hand a little each time she reached the top. The first time she tried this, Beast Boy gave a startled groan and almost fell as his legs gave way. Afterwards, she did it every time, enjoying the urgent gasps she seemed to be wringing from her green partner. Subconsciously, she started to speed her motions. Beast Boy could feel his climax starting to rise up from his hips and spread through his legs.
He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her close and kissing her. In the process, he brought his erection up against her stomach. She wrapped both of her hands tight around his shaft, and he humped against them, rubbing the head of his penis up against the wet, slick material of her tights. It felt too good.
“Raven…”
“Yeah?”
“I’m going to… cum… soon.”
“Oh really?”
Beast Boy couldn’t answer, as he felt the first wave of orgasm building at the base of his penis.
“Raven!” he gasped, his eyes wide and staring at her with an expression that she had never seen before. Curious, she looked down and saw the first spurt of his ejaculate emerge and land on her upper stomach. She rubbed his penis again experimentally, and Beast Boy gasped, and ejaculated again. She continued to stroke him as he clung to her, groaning, until he had ejaculated five more times. Afterwards, nothing else seemed to happen.
“Raven… please… stop. It feels weird.”
“Is that all you have to say to me?”
“No… I… that was amazing.”
He suddenly felt very sleepy.
Raven lifted his arms above his head, and with no resistance pulled his shirt off, leaving him naked in the stream of water except for his shoes and the pants pooled around his feet.
“We do need to get cleaned up, you know.”
Beast Boy just nodded, still a little stunned from the experience.
“You got all over me. I’m definitely going to have some washing to do.”
“Sorry.”
“Meh.”
Beast Boy relaxed in the stream of water from the shower, kicking off his shoes and pants, leaving himself completely naked. Raven was doing something behind him, but he didn’t really notice what until she wrapped her arms around him, pressing her chest into his back, and he realized that she had taken off her clothes as well.
“We need to get out of here. I’m going to get all pruney.”
And with that, a brief flash of black surrounded them, and they were gone.
Neither of them noticed the red-headed alien standing in the doorway to the shower, wearing nothing but a pink towel and a shocked expression.
