The Crush

Chapter 1.

Superman's POV.

It had first started with mild concern and unconscious gestures and had slowly developed into a huge crush.

Damn him. He had to get a crush on the most cold hearted individual in the entire league.

That was what Superman thought as he gazed at Batman from his console in the justice league tower. Clark was supposed to be gazing at the screen infront of him not drooling at Bruce whom was sitting at his own console, across the huge room, studying his moniter intensily.

The man could be so cold at times.

He ignored everyone else, kept to himself, and if pushed, would remark in a most cuting voice that would send the most brave and sane to hiding or to the shrink's couch.

But damn he loved him.

Despite his demeanor he was a vital part of the league.

Bruce might have been without any powers but he was the earth's greatest scientific minds not to mention an exellent criminologist and detective.

Clark had a brief fantasy were he saw Bruce going head to head against Sherlock Holmes and how after defeat Sherlock would bite his own rediculous hat in frustration.

That thought brought a grin to Clark's face.

Clark had it bad.

How was he supposed to harbor feelings for someone who had a heart made of stone.

Bruce was a loner.

He never socailized. Not only in normal life but also up here among his comrades. He would avoid others and not participate in any justice league missions unless he absolutely had to and his assistance was needed.

But all in all Bruce was a good guy.

He was the most needed among. They have enough of their share of muscle but keen intellegence and cunning observations were Bruces strong points.

In many situations all of them when facing a difficult situation wouldgo to Bruce and ask him what to do.

Superman might be the leader but he was nothing without Batman. He relied on his expertise for the crucail decision making. Bruce's superiority in making the most important and vital decisions during missions had lifted alot of the pressure and weight of Clarks shoulders. He might be the man of steel, but he was still effected by the pressure and weight of his leadership which seemed to not effect Bruce in any way or manner.

The man was truly cold hearted.

He would review his options during a battle and make the necessary choices with absolutely no hesitation or uncertainty. And the man was only human, without any powers.

The Man of Steel. That was Superman's title but he had nothing on Batman's nerves and decisiveness.

The Kight of Gotham. The shadow that roamed the rooftops at night, striking fear in the hearts of criminals. Not only that but Clark was pretty certain that the rest of the league feared Bruce as much as the criminals he hunted.

Honestly, he had to admit that he did feel a small amount of trepidation when it came to Batman. The man had a way of planting fear in the souls of others. He might be only human, but his gaze (with or without the cowl) would make you feel as though he could read your thoughts and know of what you are thinking. Not to mention that there was a certain air of superiority that embraced him and the space he confided.

He probably had a file on each member of the league and of their weaknesses in the danger that they might turn evil.

But that was Batman he discribing.

He had only a vague idea of what Bruce might be like.

Anyone else might tell him that bth Bruce and Batman were one and the same.

But they were wrong.

True that Batman's real identity is Bruce Wayne, but thats only when he puts on the suit. At other times he is almost entirely disconnected from the Bat.

When he Clark dons on the Superman suit he isn't really changing much when it comes to the real person, even Kal-El is at times integrated into the mixture. They are and the same. But not with Batman. They are two diffrent people.

So was there any chance that his effections might be returned?

Clark didn't know.

All of a sudden his moniter suddenly changed from his camera on earth to show that face of J'onn and he turned quickly to see what the martain wanted.

"Good evening Kal-El and thank you for staying so late and taking over Aquaman's watch while he helps repair his home. You may leave if you wish, I just got a message from Diana saying she wil come up and take overfor a while. Sorry to have had to keep you up so late." said the martain.

"Not at all J'onn, I think I'll go back home and rest. Good night." replied Clark as he got up and turned of the moniter.

A few days ago, an accindental charge was fired by a patroling submarine and hit a soft patch in the earth that resulted in a small landslide, damaging the castle that resided in Atlantica. (Author: Or Atlantis, frankly I don't know so ignore it.)

So Aquaman was off repairing it and they had all volunteered to help.(All except, obviously, Batman)

Clark had offered to help, but his help was dismissed on account that someone had to help moniter the tower while they were gone.

So there he was, in the tower, alone, with Bruce. It might have been a coincidence, or a logical solution, or his poor excuse to be with Bruce.

But it worked, didn't it?

"I'm going back home and get some sleep, and Dianas coming up to take over." said Clark to Bruce's turned back at his place on the console.

Bruce grunted in acknowledgment without deigning to turn.

Clark walked over to were Bruce was sitting at the computer, working on some complex binal codes that probably only he and J'onn could understand, and laid his hand on Bruces shoulder.

"You should really sleep, you've been working on the computer for hours. It can wait till after you rest." said Clark.

Bruce didn't even slow down his typing and turn as he answered.

"I'll sleep when its done."

Clark stared at Bruce for a while longer and then shaking his head, removed his hand from Bruce's shoulder, reluctantly, and headed to the door.

'The man can be so irritating at times, pushing himself and ignoring others.' thought clark as he headed out 'But if hes so irritating why do I seek his company so much?'

To Be Continued...
