Black and White
ACTUAL Chapter 1
Chapter 1: Eyes
Raven grunted as another energy blast slammed into her mental shield, nearly breaking her focus. She was acting as decoy again as her team-mates and friends tried to figure a way to stop the giant behemoth of a monster that was rampaging the city. The beast had already flattened a half dozen skyscrapers, and hell knew how many smaller buildings. The thing seemed invincible. Beast boy, in the morphed form of a bird, flew around its head like an overgrown mosquito, trying to both aggravate and distract it away from Raven. Raven would have rolled her eyes if it wouldn’t have broken her focus. The ignorant fool kept up his every maneuver to try and get her interest. She used her mental energy to pick up a fairly large piece of a building that the beast had toppled, aimed for its head, and hurled with all her strength. Robin, for all his bravado, had been the first to go down, and Starfire was kneeling next to him and trying to get him to reawaken. The beast turned to look at Raven just in time for the concrete slab to smack right into its eye. With a furious howl, it reached up and clutched at the piece of concrete that had wedged between its eyeball and the inside of the eyelid. Raven allowed herself a small smirk. Bingo.
The victory was short-lived. With renewed, blind fury, the beast literally picked up a small convenience store and hurled it at Raven. Beast boy and Raven could only watch hopelessly as the building hurled right for her. She tried to get out of the way, knowing even her power couldn’t possibly deflect something that large and heavy and thrown with that much force, but the building overcame her. Luckily, it landed just behind her, but the concrete road underneath her feet crumpled inwards from the impact and twisted, trapping her underneath it. She let out a yell of pain and struggled to focus her kinesis to the concrete to get it to move away, just a little, but the pain was too great and the concrete was too large. She stopped and looked up helplessly as the monster crashed its way over her and lifted a foot. Beast boy started to attack the beast’s eyes with his beak, trying to do something, anything, to distract the monster now, but the monster merely slapped him clean out of air, sending him down to Earth in an unconscious bundle. Raven closed her eyes tightly as the foot came down towards her.
Except it never came. After a few seconds, she chanced a look upwards, to find a red glowing energy field around the monster’s foot, holding it steady. She looked around and spotted a shadowy sort of shape a couple dozen meters back holding up its arm and pointing at the beast. The red energy that glowed around the monster’s foot was wrapped around the extended arm, much like Raven’s own black kinetic energy. With a flick of its shadowed hand, the beast suddenly was lifted upside down into the air by its foot. It was an awesome sight; a 150 foot tall monstrosity, dangling a hundred feet in the air by its foot from an unknown energy. Raven could only stare dumbly as the beast was flipped around a few times, and then hurled at such a rapid speed that it looked like a blur towards the water. The monster sank, and the stranger’s hand remained wrapped in the red energy for about two more minutes, then it faded away.
It looked in the direction of the monster for a while, until Raven’s voice reached its ears. “Hey…great you did that, but can you give me a hand here?” The shadow turned, almost quizzically, but a hand raised up and a blue energy flowed around its hand for a moment. The cement slabs that were painfully entrapping her leg moved apart enough for her to extract her leg. “Thanks…” she said, rubbing the area of her leg where the cement slabs had been grinding into the skin, but when she glanced up, the shadowy figure was gone.
That’s enough for Chapter 1. I’m doing chapter 2 as I upload 1, so it’ll be rapid fire.
